Rigorous numerical Estimation of Lyapunov exponents and Invariant Measures of Iterated Function Systems and Random Matrix Products

چکیده
We present a fast, simple matrix method of computing the unique invariant measure and associated Lyapunov exponents of a nonlinear iterated function system. Analytic bounds for the error in our approximate invariant measure (in terms of the Hutchinson metric) are provided, while convergence of the Lyapunov exponent estimates to the true value is assured. As a special case, we are able to rigorously estimate the Lyapunov exponents of an iid random matrix product. Computation of the Lyapunov exponents is carried out by evaluating an integral with respect to the unique invariant measure, rather than following a random orbit. For lowdimensional systems, our method is considerably quicker and more accurate than conventional methods of exponent computation. An application to Markov random matrix product is also described.

On the estimation of invariant measures and Lyapunov exponents arising from iid compositions of maps
We present a method of approximating the unique invariant measure and associated Lyapunov exponents of a random dynamical system deened by the iid composition of a family of maps in situations where only one Lyapunov exponent is observed. As a corollary, our construction also provides a method of estimating the top Lyapunov exponent of an iid random matrix product. We develop rigorous numerical...
متن کاملA hybrid method for calculating Lyapunov exponents
In this paper we propose a numerical method for computing all Lyapunov coefficients of a discrete time dynamical system by spatial integration. The method extends an approach of Aston and Dellnitz (1999) who use a box approximation of an underlying ergodic measure and compute the first Lyapunov exponent from a spatial average of the norms of the Jacobian for the iterated map. In the hybrid meth...
متن کاملRobust Vanishing of All Lyapunov Exponents for Iterated Function Systems
Given any compact connected manifold M , we describe Copen sets of iterated functions systems (IFS’s) admitting fully-supported ergodic measures whose Lyapunov exponents alongM are all zero. Moreover, these measures are approximated by measures supported on periodic orbits. We also describe C-open sets of IFS’s admitting ergodic measures of positive entropy whose Lyapunov exponents along M are ...
متن کاملEstimation of the Domain of Attraction of Free Tumor Equilibrium Point for Perturbed Tumor Immunotherapy Model
In this paper, we are going to estimate the domain of attraction of tumor-free equilibrium points in a perturbed cancer tumor model describing the tumor-immune system competition dynamics. The proposed method is based on an optimization problem solution for a chosen Lyapunov function that can be casted in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities constraint and Taylor expansion of nonlinear terms. We...
متن کاملError analysis of a hybrid method for computing Lyapunov exponents
In a previous paper [6] we suggested a numerical method for computing all Lyapunov exponents of a dynamical system by spatial integration with respect to an ergodic measure. The method extended an earlier approach of Aston and Dellnitz [2] for the largest Lyapunov exponent by integrating the diagonal entries from the QR-decomposition of the Jacobian for an iterated map. In this paper we provide...
